Project Objectives

    i.       Improved financial security of persons with disabilities and caregivers of persons with disabilities.

ii.        Improved inclusivity of financial and social service providers and employers.

iii. Improved inclusivity of social welfare and financial sectors for persons with disabilities.

Brief Project background

This project aims to promote the economic empowerment of persons with disabilities by enhancing their capacity to manage and access financial resources independently.

Guided by the principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), the initiative supports equal employment opportunities, non-discrimination in the workplace, and access to reasonable accommodation.

Economic empowerment in this context extends beyond subsistence, focusing on building financial resilience, autonomy, and informed decision-making.

The Atlas Alliance collaborates with Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) across partner countries at individual, community, and national levels. Through training, mentorship, and targeted support, the project equips persons with disabilities, their families, and caregivers with knowledge on employment rights, income generation, and financial literacy.

Community-based financial programs are implemented to support grassroots inclusion, while national-level advocacy pushes for systemic reforms in financial and social policies.

A key component involves working with financial institutions and employers to enhance disability inclusion in their services and practices. Lessons from community-level initiatives inform broader sectoral reforms, contributing to long-term, sustainable change. Ultimately, the project supports the realization of the rights of persons with disabilities and fosters inclusive economic systems in line with the Atlas Alliance’s vision.
