On this International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we were delighted to join the communities in Mubende District to commemorate this important occasion.

The event was honored by the presence of the Prime Minister, Rt. Honorable Robina Nabanja, who represented His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Uganda.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, we proudly launched the anthem for persons with disabilities, marking a significant milestone in recognizing and advocating for the rights of individuals with disabilities.
Additionally, the launch of the National Assistance Program for Children with Severe Disabilities and the National Guidelines on Disability Inclusion in Child Protection are crucial steps toward improving the lives of these children.
We are excited to be a part of these transformative initiatives and committed to making a difference for those who need it most.
The UNICEF Country representative Dr Robin Nandy, Uganda is dedicated to protecting the rights of persons with disabilities, as shown by various laws, including the Constitution and the Persons with Disabilities Act.

However, there is a critical gap in social protection for children with disabilities, with 90% lacking support, assistive devices, and facing discrimination. The launch of the National Assistance Program for Children with Severe Disabilities and the National Guidelines on Disability Inclusion in Child Protection is key milestone to support children with severe disabilities. These initiatives are vital steps toward improving the lives of children with severe disabilities & NUDIPU we are gladly excited to be part of these initiatives.
