All stakeholders and well-wishers to NUDIPU-Uganda gathered at Bishop West Primary School in Mukono to commemorate its Advocacy day on 1️⃣4️⃣ NOVEMBER 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣4️⃣ under the theme: Food security for all regardless of ability.
This same day doubled as a day when we made 37 years as an organization.
We were delighted to interact with different stakeholders especially under the food and agriculture sector and indeed there are persons with disabilities who have extra ordinarily embraced Agriculture.
This is a positive attribute and indeed to all the speakers of the day the stressed the need why persons with disabilities should be part of this great important sector to empower themselves.
A household with food will never experience hunger nor be subjected to abject poverty and this is the information we want to share with our persons with disabilities.
Though despite encouraging many to involve in Agriculture there is a challenge of persons with disabilities not having access to land or their land is stolen under their watch as our Chief Executive Officer NUDIPU Esther Kyozira shares. She encouraged families and communities not to encroach on land owned by persons with disabilities.
To the guest of Honour Commissioner Crop Production Ministry of Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) Mr Stephen Byantware standing in for the invited guest Honorable Minister MAAIF Frank Tumwebaze also encouraged persons with disabilities to utilise the small pieces of land they own to do both commercial and subsistence farming.
At the end of the day we all need money in our pockets. Persons with disabilities need money as well. We can start with first growing crops and also embrace pond farming. These can be done on the small pieces of land they own, shared Stephen Byantware.

Mr Igalo Robert the Consortium Cordianator We are Able, the main hindrance to food insecurity in our country is our attitude.
We think persons with disabilities should not have access to land. This is not true, persons with disabilities are entitled to land and this is the only way for them to contribute to food security when they grow their own food.
We have witnessed that families that allow women own land are food secure.
As the consortium they working in hand with stakeholders to push for the Nutrition and Food Security Policy perhaps this will guide the population on how to grow food, when and what type of food should be grown.

According to the Chairperson National Council of Persons with Disabilities (NCPD) Mr Yona Wasswa, there are no deliberate efforts ring-fenced for persons with disabilities to benefit from government to support persons with disabilities do agriculture on a large scale.
To what extent are persons with disabilities involved in smart agriculture are they helped so as not to make big losses once they do agriculture on a large scale. We request the Ministry of Agriculture to take on these concerns to support persons with disabilities.
According to the Board Chair NUDIPU Ms Ketty Aero
